Apply for NBI clearance

CHAOS!

Its how I can best describe my experience during my National Bureau of Investigation or NBI clearance application. Way back in college, I remembered my mom and I waking up so early in the morning about 5am to start and fall in line outside the building just to get an NBI clearance, not surprisingly still there are many people who start to fall in line as early as 4:30 just to be prioritized. It was very uncomfortable, the building was small and as soon as the gates were opened around 7am, the people are like packed sardines trying to fit in into the small space. However, it was changed when they opened a new office at Victoria Plaza infront of the main building, I could just go at 4pm and reapply for a clearance and in 1 hour, I can have what I requested. The place is more comfortable, lots of space, you can even roam around the mall or do some groceries without leaving mall.

Things have turned around again, back to the chaotic old building. Passing through the crowds who were falling in line beside the busy JP Laurel Avenue, sometimes I feared that it posed a risk for the applicants because of the passing vehicles because crowds are controlled, not all can come inside the building because of the small space. What is there’s a vehicular accident beside, people can get hurt because of that. The line was very long and the people are under the heat of the early morning sun. Once inside the building, it was packed with people, it was hot, ceiling fans can’t support such ratio of crowds. I’m blessed because there I was only applying for a renewal, good thing I have not lost my old expired clearance or else I have to repeat the whole process again.

I hope and pray that they will reopen the office at Victoria althogh Im not sure why they closed the office but I guess the officials have seen this problem, Im sure they are planning to put up a new bigger space, much better as soon as possible. Anyway, if it not for the volume of people applying, applying for NBI clearance is much easier than enrolling in a college. Here’s how:

 1. Simply fill up the NBI fingerprint card and place your fingertips on the space provided for, you dont have to worry, a police intern will help you to properly mark that.

2. Pay to the cashier.

3. Have your picture taken.

4. Claim your result.

Dont forget to bring your cedula and wear proper attire. Wearing sandals, slippers, miniskirts are prohibited. Each clearance costs P115 for localemployment and travel abroad purposes. You got to have your own pen and lots of patience. The situtation right now permits at least 2 hours processing of your application. Be sure not to loose the receipt so you wont have problems claiming it. Pray that your name is not considered a HIT or a person with same name of you have questionable records on the data base and thats when the trouble comes because you have to wait for 2 weeks or 10 working days to claim your copy, some even require affidavits just to receive their result.

For first time applicants, please bring also 1 or 2 valid ID’s such as the following:

For New Applicant:

Valid ID of any of the following:

a.)   Company I.D

b.)   Current School I.D

c.)    Voter’s I.D

d.)   Postal I.D

e.)   Driver’s License

f.)      P.R.C License

g.)   Valid Passport

h.)    Valid ATM Card with Picture

i.)      GSIS e-Card

j.)      SSS I.D with Picture

k.)    A.C.R or Alien Certificate of Registration (for Aliens)

***In the absence of any of the above, a birth certificate issued by NSO may be presented.

The last time i got my NBI clearance was 2006 while i was still single. I need a new one now, and I’m married, is this still considered renewal? What do i need to bring and can i apply at Kiosk or do i have to go to main NBI office?

thanks

@zazzhy - if you want to change status, bring your marriage contract and the old NBI clearance. Yes, personal appearance.

You just have to bring the US FBI form then have your fingerprint then go home, take the form with you.

Hi! I have an old NBI clearance(not valid for travel abroad) which is now expired. Wouldl it be considered as renewal if I’m going to get one now and should be valid for travel abroad? Or I have to start over since the one I had is not valid for travel? Also, can I apply it through their satelite kiosk?

Posted by Kyouki at July 9, 2010, 6:48 pm

You should bring the old expired NBI clearance, if you fail, you have to go through the whole process again like fingerprinting whether for local employment or travel abroad. Im not sure of the sattelite kiosk, we dont have that one here in Davao.
