IV Therapy Seminar in Davao

One of the most important skill a nurse can have is mastery in IV therapy, its always a basic requirement that one nurse must know how to start an IV line because most patients have venoclysis once they are admitted. Aside from canulation, IV therapy also reiterates the importance of proper medication through the 10 rights in giving medications. In addition, starting blood components is as important as medication since blood transfusion saves lives. In order to enhance this skills and improve patient safety, one must undergo IV Therapy Training. 

To Register for Basic IV Therapy Seminar, these are the basic requirements:

1. Must be a registered nurse

2. Must have a PRC ID or claim stub if ID is still on process

3. Must have P2680, training fee that includes paraphernalias, certificates and meals. 

Where to register:

ANSAP Office located at SPMC-Coop Building 2nd Floor. JP Laurel Ave. Davao City. 

Once you have a schedule be at the venue on time. DO NOT BE LATE. Venue is located at Mahogany Room. 3rd Floor. JICA Bldg, Southern Philippines Medical Center. Time starts at exactly 8AM to 5PM and half day on the last day. If you are unable to attend the seminar, inform ANSAP secretary immediately. A corresponding penalty is in effect.

INTRODUCING A HOME HEALTH-CARE INDUSTRY IN THE PHILIPPINES

Project Description:

An initiative of DOLE, in collaboration with BON-PRC, DOH, PNA, UPCN, OHNAP and other government and non-government entities to promote nurse entrepreneurship by introducing a home health care industry in the Philippines:

1)      to reduce the cost of health care for the country’s indigent population by bringing primary health care services to poor rural communities,

2)      to maximize employment opportunities for the country’s unemployed nurses and

3)      to utilize the country’s unemployed human resources for health for the delivery of public health services and the achievement of the country’s Millennium Development Goals on maternal and child health, consistent with the Fourmula One for Health framework of the Department of Health.

The Thing called LOVE!

LOVE

According to the bible, Love is the greatest of all things (1 Corinthians 13:13). Therefore, it is appropriate that we include a page that covers the various facets of love that the bible teaches.

To start with, the bible defines “LOVE” at 1 Corinthians chapter 13:4-7

Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous, love is never boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

This is a thorough definition of love, and it can seem a bit intimidating when we try to follow it to the letter. However, since love is the greatest of things, we need to do our best to have love and display it. Everything we do in our daily living must be done with the element of love involved (1 Corinthians 16:14).

Love is one of the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22). This makes sense because God is a spirit (John 4:24) and He is love (1 John 4:8, 16),and love is from God (1 John 4:7). God loves us (Ephesians 2:4). We must imitate God by walking in love (Ephesians 5:1). This is why we are commanded to love others (Leviticus 19:18,34, Deuteronomy 10:19, Matthew 19:19, Matthew 22:39, John 13:34, John 15:17), even our enemies (Matthew 5:43-46, Luke 6:27). We are also to love the laws of God (Proverbs 4:1-6). Also, if we love Christ, we will observe his commandments (John 14:15,23-24, John 15:9-10, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 6). And of course, we are to love God with our whole heart, soul and mind (Deuteronomy 6:5, 10:12, Deut. 11:1, 13,22, Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30). God will not forget love shown in His name (Hebrews 6:10). Christ’s disciples will have love among themselves (John 13:34).

Love covers over all transgressions (Proverbs 10:12, Proverbs 17:9, 1 Peter 4:8). Love builds a person up (1 Corinthians 8:1). Love does not work evil to one’s neighbor (Romans 13:10). Our love must be without hypocrisy (Romans 12:9). Love is better than riches (Proverbs 15:17). We must have brotherly love for one another (Romans 12:10, 1 Thessalonians 4:9, Hebrews 13:1). The only thing that we really owe one another is love (Romans 13:8).We must remember to show love to those who have repented from their sins (2 Corinthians 2:5-10).

Although having gifts of the spirit is good, those mean nothing if you don’t have love as well (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Though we may seek spiritual gifts, we must always remember to pursue love (1 Corinthians 14:1, 1 Timothy 6:11, 2 Timothy 2:22). We must put up with one another in love (Ephesians 4:1-2). Love is a perfect bond of union (Colossians 3:14).We are to incite each other to love and fine works (Hebrews 10:24). Though we are to show love, we are not to show favoritism (James 2:8). He that does not love is as good as dead (1 John 3:14).

Air Philippines is back with A320

Air Philippines is back with Airbus A320 on their fleet. Starting the launch with their seat sale to some domestic destinations above. I hope that Air Philippines will be a major low cost carrier that will also fly international.

Bachelors Night

Medical Bloopers in Philippine Drama

Watching Philippine drama’s its common to see scenes that have conflicts between rich and poor, romances between 2 characters, revenge of villains and dramatic endings. Its just recently that I have noticed medical scenes in a drama more closely because of the recent primetime offering of ABS-CBN called Habang May Buhay starring Judy Ann Santos. The story revolves around Judy Ann being a nurse and her quest to help her mother recover from a tragic love story that lead her to develop psychotic behavior. However this article is not intended to make a review about the soap opera but to examine some medical bloopers around Philippine television past or present.

When I was not still a nurse, I used to believe that the things they do in a medical related scenes are the actual scenes you can see in a hospital. A lot of cases are shown in an emergency or intensive care unit setting. However, when I started to work especially in a toxic area, the medical ward and now at the Emergency room, now I realized that most scenarious are a bit funny and unrealistic. Lets site some examples below:

1. A patient was defibrillated but she has still clothes on it. 

2. A patient on cardiac arrest was not intubated, still they placed O2 cannula. (Dahil May Isang Ikaw)

3. I wonder why the nurse always carry patients chart.

4. A patient was intubated and yet she can talk (Tayong Dalawa, Marimar)

5. A patient was intubated but was still with O2 cannula. (Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang)

6. A woman had delivery, when the baby came out, there was no vernix and was already cord dressed. 

7. A doctor pronounced the patient dead only with a stetoscope or sometimes a flat line on the cardiac monitor only. 

8. Doing chest compressions on the stomach (Habang May Buhay)

9. A patient was pronounced dead but continued to do CPR (Habang May Buhay)

10. A patient was operated (EX-LAP) but was only given O2 cannula. (Dahil May Isang Ikaw)

Be an Emergency Room Nurse

If you love a fast paced environment thrive on excitement and have a desire to help people a career as an ER nurse may be a good fit.  One of the most exciting and challenging area in Nursing is the Emergency Room. Most patients that are admitted in the hospital comes from the ER. The ER nurse handles different cases such as pediatric, medical, surgical and OB Gyne emergencies,  its not easy to be an ER Nurse because you are the first line care provider on these patients. You are mostly higher risk of nosocomial because of an undiagnosed or untreated medical condition like tuberculosis or pneumonia. ER nurses must handle patients quickly, must have a good assessment skills and clinical eye so that we can recognize life-threatening problem as soon as possible and rapidly make appropriate care. One of the most important skill I learned is to be more resourceful, you can use anything you can see in the complex to help the patient especially when things run out of supply.

Emergency nursing is a specialty area of the nursing profession like no other. To provide quality patient care for people of all ages, emergency nurses must possess both general and specific knowledge about health care to provide quality patient care for people of all ages. Emergency nurses must be ready to treat a wide variety of illnesses or injury situations, ranging from a sore throat to a heart attack.
