Mlang Airport

A P100 million domestic airport is soon to rise at Municipality of Mlang in the Province of North Cotabato. It was about 6 years ago that I have heard about this news, I could not believe my ears when I heard about this, I was excited for this new development in my province. However, due to the economic slowdown today, I felt that its not what the province needs as of the moment. Airlines could be thinking twice or thrice before flying in the province because of safety reasons, low tourism receipts and the province is more likely an agricultural land. There are still roads that needs to be built to the farms, more classrooms is what we need and instead of an airport I think what the government should  build is a new hospital to replace the old and aging Cotabato Provincial Hospital that will soon be a fully tertiary Medical center.

Yeah, airport is a great project but there is more possibility that the project will be stagnant. We have so many nonfunctional airports or airstrips in the country and money is wasted. If you build a new hospital, many poor will benefit from it, many lives will be saved and more healthcare jobs too.

Addendum:

I dont know if the airport is on what phase of construction now, but I saw clip from Youtube with PGMA on its inaugural.

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/21 Nov) — President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo inaugurated Saturday the P15 million terminal building of the M’lang Rural Airport in Barangay Tawan-tawan, M’lang, North Cotabato.
The airport has been dubbed as North Cotabato’s “gateway to markets in Luzon and Visayas.”

The rural airport is the first in the land-locked province.

Governor Jesus Sacdalan said the airport’s construction is a joint effort of different national government agencies under the close supervision of the President.

“With the inauguration and blessing of the airport terminal building and the start of the construction of the 1.5-kilometer runway, the Cotabato Rural Airport will finally be completed by mid-2010, 15 years after I started dreaming about it,” Vice Gov. Emmanuel Pinol said.

Pinol was mayor of M’lang in 1995. He became governor of the province from 1998 to 2007.
