Stay at Sugbutel in Cebu

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

After my trip to Bohol, I felt very dizzy and feverish so I decided to take an overnight stay at Cebu and hopefully catch a bus to Dumaguete via Liloan, Santander southern part of Cebu. I usually stay at Pension houses near Mango or along Cebu Doctors. However, out of curiosity I chose Sugbutel instead.

Sugbutel is a budget friendly hotel located near SM City Cebu and North Reclamation area. Its a different kind of hotel that I have been to.They dont have private rooms instead the accommodation is like in the economy class in a ship or more likely a hospital, its like a ward with lots patients.

Each room has more than 80 double decker beds and 2 huge airconditioners. Its advisable to rent those lines because it really get very cold. This was inspired from Japan’s capsule hotel.

Sugbutel also has 24/7 camera’s for added security but the best thing was the staff’s are very friendly, they treat you as first class. At this costs, you dont expect that guards open the doors for you when you come in, greet you a pleasant day, guide you to your rooms and they always give a smile and a warm welcome. What a great service!

Bohol Countryside tour

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Bohol is also rich and culture and tradition. It is the place where the Blood Compact or the signing of a peace and trade agreement during Spanish colonial times also known as the Sandugo. This event is remembered through a shrine located in Tagbilaran during the first stopover of our Bohol countryside tour. The place is also overlooking the sea of Bohol.

The ceremony was very unhygienic because they have to drink each others blood with wine from the bleeding vessels in their arms, fortunately there was no hepatitis or other blood-borne diseases yet. Lol.

The next pitstop of our tour was the Baclayon Church located few minutes away from Sandugo Shrine. Bohol has also lots of old churches but this one below is one of the best.

The Chocolate Hills, for your eyes only

Oops, you cant eat them sorry. This is an exerpt from the Wow Philippines commercial on Chocolate Hills in Bohol teasing us that its for our eyes only because contrary to belief that the Chocolate Hills produce chocolate crops.

The Chocolate Hills is Bohol’s most iconic and popular tourist attraction. It was named Chocolate Hills because during summer, the grass that covers the hills become brown revealing a chocolate skin but most of the time, the grasses are green. Geologist can’t explain how this wonders was made although there are legends that tell how this hills are formed. Incredibly, they are almost uniform in sizes and consists of more than 1,000 hills.

The Chocolate Hills was nominated as the New 7 Wonders of the World. It truly deserves to be in the spot. Its time the world to know how beautiful Bohol is and the Philippines in general. To my surprise, I can see lots of tourist mostly Koreans when we visited this place. There are also few numbers of Caucasians and Europeans. Bohol is poist to be the eco-tourism center in the Philippines.

One must not leave Bohol without experiencing the Chocolate Hills. The hills are works of God. You will never miss this if you join a tourist coach or tours. Navigating on your own in Bohol is quite rough, the best ways is to hire a tour from the Tagbilaran port. It is more convenient and you can save lot in groups.

The Tarsiers of Bohol

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Aside from the famous Chocolate Hills we see on postcards, there is also one thing thats uniquely from Bohol and its the cute, addorable, charming, petite, shy tarsiers of Bohol. It was my first encounter with real life tarsiers, I can’t believe at first that it is really palm-sized monkey. They have huge eyes and neck that can rotate as much as 180 degrees. Their eyes are just simply innocent looking, you could see their emotions as an animal.

How can some cruel people capture this animals for pets, they dont deserve to be in cages and petshops because Bohol is their home. If we don’t protect these animals, they might just end in this picture or in encyclopedias. Lets not wait for this to happen.

Tarsiers are very shy creatures, they just sit or hold on to the branches of this plants. When you visit the viewing area, make sure that you dont turn on your camera’s flash because these flash can irritate their eyes and damage their vision.

Dumaluan Beach Resort, Panglao

Dumaluan Beach Resort is a cheap alternative accommodation in Panglao Island. They have white sand beaches, restaurant and a free wifi connection. Wifi connection is always a big plus for me. Every tourism establishment should have one, right?

We took some pictures during sunset.
