New Bacolod-Silay Airport Review

Monday, June 8th, 2009

The New Bacolod-Silay International Airport is a new airport in Bacolod replacing the old domestic airport located 30 minutes away from the city proper at Silay City area. It can accommodate large aircrafts like B747 and A340. It has an impressive interior and exterior design as well. Philippine Airlines, PAL Express, Cebu Pacific and Zest Air currently serves the airport. Other features of the airport are elevators, escalators, aerobridges, computerized flight information display and a baggage conveyor.

The floor is not just tiles but made of a material that something I dont know, its not tiles or vinyl but it is really soothing to the foot and safe from slipping even when wet. Can someone help me what they put on the departure hall of the airport?

The airport has a very smooth check in process probably because there are only few volume of passengers that time. It is also clean, well maintained.

I was also impressed with the seats, it is covered with foam, so seating would not be a pain in the ass unlike NAIA, Davao Airport, Iloilo and Cebu which have metallic seats.

However, upon roaming around the airport, at first we encountered brown-out. I thought it was just normal but brown-out happened for 3 times. I recalled from previous reports that this airport suffered electricity problems that damaged their x-ray machines.

There are also coffee shops, souvenir shops and smoking area. I was in the airport 2 hours before my departure because I was expecting that I use the internet but I was saddened because there was no WiFi connection in the area. For a sudden, my total impression of the airport was rubbish because there’s no WiFi. For an international airport like this, they should place WiFi connections but then again. *rants*

Because I had so much savings, I decided to book a private van to the airport from my pension house with Nyala Tours at P150 one way to the airport. Taxis charge upto P300. There are also terminals bound for airport at SM Bacolod and Robinsons. I found out that there are also vans located at Silay City near the gas station for a much cheaper rate. Lastly, prepare P200 for the terminal fee.

Overall, I enjoyed so much my trip to Negros Occidental, I have discovered, experienced and learned new things. There is really still so much to explore our country.

I’m so excited to personally see the new Bacolod-Silay City International Airport on Saturday (Sept 5)
It seems the picture says it all how nice this new airport as compared to the old one along Singcang.
