Free-reading Travel books

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Everytime I go to National Bookstore, I always pay a visit to the Travel section and do free-reading. There are lots of great books about travel around the Philippines and the world. All you need is a great imagination and this books can take you to places. Sometimes when I open books, as if I’ve been to the places like Paris, New York, London or Africa. Just like the movie, Night at the Musuem that everything comes alive. I definitely wish for this to happen, you know, after reading about Honolulu or Maldives, you found out that you are stepping on a sand and you got wet or caught a shark. People inside the bookstore wonders what happened to you.  Aint that cool?

Some books cost over a thousand pesos and there are also cheaper ones. Although I dont have enough budget for that now, I guess free reading will do. I wasn’t surprised if Im the only one doing it because I found out that many do free reading as well in this section.

There are lots of books about the Philippines and all I could say is Wow Philippines. There are lots of places that are left undiscovered and new to me. I never thought that we have one of the best diving spots in the world. Our flora and fauna are spectular and unique and our natural wonders are competitive. However, perhaps due to the peace situation, we left behind by western tourists on their travel list. Thats why, one of the purpose of this blog is to show how beautiful our country is and we should protect and preserve it.

I really wish that I can travel around the Philippines and the rest of the world and this dream begins now.

Hi Travel Reader,

“The Marco Polo Odyssey” is a new book that will carry you while reading along the old Silk Roads that Marco Polo followed. It was a 13,000 mile journey from Venice, Italy to Israel, across Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Northern Pakistan and all of China. It is history wrapped in an adventure. Harry Rutstein, the author, became the first person to retrace the Marco Polo’s trek across Asia. In addition to the book a DVD entitled “On the Roof of the World with Marco Polo” is also included that is of a documentary film made of a part of Rutstein’s expedition crossing the Hindu Kush and Karakoram Mountains from Afghanistan to the border of China. You can see clips from the movie and a slide show from the book on www.MarcoPoloFound.org.
