Change career?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

This past few days, there were some thoughts that bothers me, one of them was to change career. From being a staff nurse, I was thinking it would be better if I will be clinical instructor to a popular nursing school here in Davao. This January 1, I will be officially serving the public for one year at Davao Medical Center. Time really flies so fast, as if it was just like yesterday.

One factor perhaps on my ideals to change career is money. A contractual at DMC just earns about P10,000 a month while being a C.I. can double or some can even triple that amount. I observe some CI’s in the ward, they were just so glamorous with all the gadgets they own that they could never buy just as a lone contractual nurse and they look little stress-free. My friend, Irene was just hired at John Paul College of Davaa and will start next month. Good for her, she will earn a pretty hefty amount of cash. She could now buy all the boys he want, haha. Kidding.

Another reason would be for my passion to teach, perhaps due to the inspiration I got from my mom. She was a very hardworking teacher in public school and served more than 25 years. Even during high school or college days, I love to report in front of the class and share my knowledge, although I had no honor or medals before, I find it fun to teach. This is also the reason why I took up my Masters degree at Philippine Womens University (Manila) distance learning school. Like when I change carreer I will be qualified as a CI and eventually become a Dean of Nursing someday. Haha.

Customer service in the Hospital? Part 1

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Today, I have learned alot during our 2 day Hospital Reorientation Seminar specifically on the topic on CUSTOMER CARE. The speaker of the topic was our very own Chief of Hospital, Dr. Vega. Now, alot of questions came before he started his speech and one of it was how can we have customer service in the hospital since we dont have customers. I was so shamed at myself that patients are also called customers in the sense that the hospital is also a business entity even though we are in the public service. As long as the patients pay for the service we give, they are also customers.

The patients are the most important people in the hospital because without them the hospital, nurses, doctors and other medical practitioners will not exist. We have alot to thanks to our patients even though sometimes they are very demanding and adamant. But this can be minimized through proper CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just like anyother business establishment, we have to take good care of our customers or patients for them to patronize us. Today, even class B or even A people seek consultation in our hospital because we have pay patients and new developments like Mindanao Heart Center that handles complicated and sophisticated heart surgeries that rich people can afford. According to Dr. Vega, soon the Big Four hospitals of Davao; Davao Doctors, San Pedro, Brokenshire and Limso Hospital will be runningfor their money as long as we improve on our customer service culture.
