Renal Dialysis Nursing

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Do you want to become a Renal Dialysis nurse?

A dialysis nurse is sometimes referred to as a nephrology nurse, a urology nurse or a renal nurse. Dialysis nurses learn to operate dialysis equipment that filters waste products from a patient’s body when the kidneys can no longer perform this necessary function themselves.

Davao Medical Center boast for having the most number and the most modern renal dialysis facilities in whole Mindanao. This is an interesting in area in Nursing. Perhaps in the future, I would shift my career as a renal nurse. DMC’s Renal Dialysis Unit is so nice, it has TV  in every dialysis seats, the place is fully airconditioned and clean. I like their shifting schedule too because they don’t have night duties and they are off every sundays.

If you are a nurse, you might as well train at Davao Medical Center - Renal Dialysis Unit.

The Renal Dialysis Unit is designed and equipped as an inpatient dialysis treatment area. Modalities of hemodialysis, ultra filtration and plasmaphoresis are performed on inpatients. The patients are transported to this area from other nursing units for hemodialysis and are returned to their home unit upon completion of the treatment. Exceptions include the critically ill patient who is dialyzed in ICU by renal dialysis personnel. Vascular access procedures performed in this area are limited to percutaneous procedures. Only the specially trained licensed nurse may dialyze.

good day! i just passed the board last november. im interested of becoming a renal nurse. my plan’s to train at the nat’l kidney institute. may i ask what are the advantages of a renal nurse over other specialties
is it better than being a general practioner? my intention is to go abroad and i plan to take advantage of my trainings here in our country.

thank you in advance.
God bless

Posted by martin at March 15, 2009, 9:41 am

Thanks all for your comments. As soon as I go back to Davao I will really try to go to the training office.

Hi Martin, as you can see on workabroad.ph, Renal Nurses are one of the most in demand specialization abroad. You have more pay than the ward nurses.

hi,

let me just share my advice to prospective hemodialysis nurse trainees. Do NOT join the dialysis training at Calamba Doctors Hospital in Calamba, Laguna.

The nurses at their Dialysis Unit are rude and unprofessional!

It is unpleasant to learn in an bad environment.

Posted by Emma at June 6, 2009, 1:27 pm

word of advice————-

do NOT enroll dialysis at Calamba Doctors Hospital in Calamba, Laguna.

Nurses in their Dialysis Unit are unprofessional and rude!

Posted by Lani the cross eyed at June 6, 2009, 1:29 pm

good day,
i have read all of your concerns which were heartily answered by marc. its good that marc is keeping you posted for every training opportunity DMC can offer. by the way marc, if you know muriel caupayan sullano, she was my classmate since grade 1-6 there in davao. but i heard she left for states. she was the former head of the dialysis unit of DMC.
im a dialysis nurse too for 12 yrs and im right now assign in the emergency room. all nurses in our dialysis unit were all my students.
this september, we might start our formal training in dialysis. this will be a 4-6 months intensive training which include; ER- for cannulation skills, ICU and on to the renal unit. this include lectures too & exams.
i am a certified renal nurse and IVT preceptor, active in supporting the RENAP activities under the leadership of mam raquel tejada the national president. she knows me if you will ask her.
if you want to contact me for add information, you can text me @ 09057761567 ™ or 09238275525 (SUN) or email me at toddgenerato@yahoo.com
thank you and be part of the RENAP

Posted by todd at June 10, 2009, 11:01 pm

by the way, this training will be soon approved & accredited by the RENAP board because i still lack one document to be filled up as what mam raquel told me thru email because she’s in the states.
Mindanao Sanitarium & Hospital is located in Iligan City. this is a private hospital with 120 bed capacity and ISO certified.
we’ve got 6 fresenius machines for now but soon to be 15 because we are transfering to a new building. not to compare with DMC cause they have 40-50 i think.
thank you again & be part of the RENAP family

hi to everyone!!!! i just want to clear the issue that one person making a stories about to the DIALYSIS UNIT OF CALAMBA DOCTORS HOSPITAL……she is saying that the nurses in the dialysis unit are rude and unprofessional……dat is NOT TRUE and a BIG LIE…..the nurses there only want their trainees learn everything during their hands on in the dialysis unit……NAGBAYAD NANG MALAKI TAPOS MASASAYANG LANG DAHIL WLANG NATUTUNAN…..DAHIL NAG IINARTE KASE TAKOT SA DUGO….DI PORKE SECOND COURSER HINDI KA NA MAGHAHANDS ON PANO KA MA22 DAPT U TAKE IT A CHALLENGE MISS…HOW WILL YOU LEARN???? DIBA??? SABI U MAGTATAYO KAU NANG DIALYSIS UNIT, KAYA DAPAT MAS MAGING EAGER KA MATUTO DIBA??? HOW U WILL START THAT BUSINESS MISS KUNG ANG ARTE ARTE U….AND ISANG NURSE DAPT HINDI MAARTE MISS………KESO SECOND COURSER KA O UN TALGA ANG TINAPOS DAPT HINDI KA SENSITIVE MISS………

Posted by LANIE at July 27, 2009, 7:32 pm

hi there! well i’m just concerned bout the expressed comment of a certain bogus person towards calamba doctors of laguna dialysis dept.
learning in a certain field of specialization needs INITIATIVE AND DETERMINATION…right? how can you render care to dialysis patients during training if the trainee he/herself doesnt have the Eagerness to learn and REFUSES to have hands -on with the pt’s …hello!!! anu yun observation nlang forever until the training ends! rich kid huh!

another thing do you think it’s professional criticizing one’s appearance then use other names to cover up what they’ve done …No! we have to look at ourselves b4 we look at the others.
i’m not blaming anyone if it’s their opinion however, this should stop the WRONGFULL ACCUSATIONS towards the dialysis nurses of CDH.
thanks !

Posted by buboy at July 27, 2009, 9:38 pm

no fighting here! heheh

Posted by marcopolo at July 28, 2009, 6:50 pm

hindi naman nakikipag away it just want to clear everything and the issues…………maarte lang kase ung isang babae na nagcoment blog u……..sya nga ang unprofessional and rude…….wla syang kwenta hindi sya marunong makisama at she is making a stories which is not true……to evryone if u will go for a dialysis training….a short advice be humble, u have a eagerness to learn on what ur doing…..PARA HINDI MASAYANG ANG PERA NYO…..kung ang attitude nyo ay 2lad nang isang miss na nagcoment dito masasayang lang ang pera nyo tapos ang nagbenefit a nun ung dialysis center kase kumita cla eh diba???? no refundable naman eh……….

good day po!

May I know the complete requirements for the training in DMC as RDU Nurse. I’m just interested po sa mga nabasa ko. Thank you very much.. Sana makareply ka po..

Thanks po ulit..

Posted by bryan at July 30, 2009, 3:14 pm

@lanie, now I understand you. As a staff nurse, I also encounter trainee’s that seems to be lax in their work. Its better to be alone than to have a trainee with that attitude however there are also trainee’s who posses great initiative and what I like best are those who can work with less supervision.

@bryan, where are you based? will send you a PM

Posted by marcopolo at July 30, 2009, 3:41 pm

@marcopolo hi! how’s ur day?????? did u read ba the comment of one person last june 6 and 21……..kase u understand me eh……ang sa akin lang naman bago sya magsalita nang kung ano ano tungkol sa isang tao o kaya sa isang institution alamin nya muna kung tama ba ang ginagawa nya at mga sasabihin nya noh……….masyado syang intrimitida at mayabng bago sya maghusga nang isang kapansanan nang isang tao ting nya muna kung wala syang kapansanan noh!!!!!!!!!……….TO HER: ALAM KO NABABASA U TONG MGA COMENT NA TO……BAKIT HINDI KA MAKAPAG COMENT NGAYON???????
