Train at SPMC (Formerly Davao Medical Center)

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Are you a newly registered nurse? Be the best that you can be. Train at Davao Medical Center (DMC).

Honestly, nurses really find it difficult to get a job today because of competition and cost cutting measures so its best option is to undergo a training program. The recent trends now here in Davao is that many hospitals are doing a training program just like DMC and San Pedro as part of their pre-employment qualification and as well to be sure that the hired nurses are competent and can practice safe nursing care.

Actually, I am a product of DMC Training program, I attended it last May 2007 and completed my 4 months Intensive Ward Training around September 2007 and officially hired last January 2008. There are many areas to choose from aside from Ward, they have Critical Care, Psychiatry, Renal Dialysis Unit, Emergency, Ambulatory, Opthalmology Operating Room, Delivery and the only Burn Unit in Mindanao ranging from 4 months - 6 months depending on your chosen field.

I really learned alot during my training, it improved my skills because at DMC we can do hands-on experience and rhe cases are diverse. Moreover, at DMC, they have regular seminars that you can attend to update yourself in the field of nursing. At the end of my training, I felt confident to face different patients from all walks of life.

Here are the requirements for the DMC Nursing Program:

I cant help but comment hehe

today’s demand for a nursing job, not nurses, are so high than that of the supply - thanks to the “American Dream” and the many nursing schools that just sprouted from somewhere. This is a completely different scenario than that of a decade ago - talk about reverse reality. The thought that you have to pay for a training fee and work without salary for a few months is downright terrible. Maybe this is the price Filipino nurses has to pay for “serving humanity,” for being greedy, or just being delusional. Either way is just too high a price. It gives the impression that new nurses are victims here or, in a more cheerful note, heroes. wahhaha

Fortunately or not, that includes me. :-)

BTW, nice blog!

i think i’ll tell my friend about this.
but i don’t think she’s up to the idea of relocating.

nursing grads.. have a hard time finding work. too little hospitals.. too many graduates

Posted by chase/chubz at March 21, 2008, 12:57 pm

You are right Chase, there is a surge of graduates and new rn’s. just like me, if I had been waiting for my application from other hospitals like davao doctors hospital, i still would’nt get a job. fortunately, I joined the training at DMC and eventually hired. As a matter of fact, many nurses are now in call center because of few vacancies in the hospital, there just so much competetion and palakasan system. Like where do you place all these nurses. Like where do you put all the nurses? Here in the Philippines, especially in Government hospitals, we have as much as 1 nurse is to 56 patients. Mabuti sana ibang bansa, 1 nurse is to 3 patients.

Chase, its really nice here in Davao, the cost of living is so low. Maganda dito, not crowded and everything is very accessible.

Thanks also for the comment Will. Schools are really making profit due to the demand of nursing. I just hope that the retrogression will be finally over so that the old nurses can go abroad and let the new nurses take the job. Haha.

sometimes, ila overtime, TY,…nya sa ward, daghan pasente, 2 or usahay 1 lang siya…..

diri, galisod, kulang nurses,,,,kay wa man makagusto sa schedule n time….labi na kung di familya.

then ingon pa nila, di maayo ang time, nya barato daw sweldo….

ambot, i am not a nurse, hearing ko lang ni ug basa sa newspaper n watching TV.

mostly mga nurses diri mga taga gawas, kay mga bootan ug agwantador daw…..walay ikkkkk.

motobag bya ko, kung i heard about this…ingon ko, sa Pinas, Nurse is not easy to study, aside sa tulon-an….mahal ang gasto n tuition fees…..

hi! do trainees usually get hired right after training? or do you have to wait a couple of months just like here in manila? coz here in manila, it takes 6mos or even more to get hired after a training! :-/

Posted by claude at March 10, 2010, 11:29 pm

hi claude, due to the volume of applicants, trainees who applied have to wait for a couple of months and even for a year but I hope that after election ban, many will be hired since DMC changed its name to SPMC increasing its bed capacity and therefore more additional manpower is needed!
