Landscaping

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Its been a month now that I wasn’t able to go back in Kidapawan for a break maybe because of the work schedule we have and I have lots of things to do like doing my stressful thesis paper. What I really miss in Kidapawan is my mom, oh Im dying of her home cook meals freshly served with love. Everytime I went home, she always prepares me my favorite dish like kare-kare and pinakbet in coconut milk. Its truly a stress reliever.

My mom and I used to go gardening together. She loves to plant vegetables and flowers. I remember when I was in my grade school, we have to pick the vegetables in the garden then we cook it, its so fresh. Wow, that was the old days. She loves to do landscaping as well just like the ones I found at TruGreen. Their landscaping and other designs reminds me of what my mom do. My mom always wanted to have a huge garden where she can just relax and feel nature.

Home Sweet Home

Yesterday, me and my friend went to the lotto shop just within few steps from my flat here in Davao. It was so tempting to bet on the game because of the record-holding jackpot prize amounting to 240 million pesos. Isn’t that amazing? Wow, if I could win that mammoth prize, I would definetely buy all the things that I want and also I want to help the poor people especially the patients at my workplace by donating half of the amount to the hospital.

Passing by along Diversion road, I can see lots of beautiful mediterreanean homes then I imagine myself owning my very own in the future exclusively situated in a private subdivision just like what I saw at Robinsons and Woodridge. So, later that night, praying to match all the numbers of the lotto and oh dear not a single digit was matched against our lotto ticket. Perhaps this is not our lucky day. So, I immediately checked the PCSO website and found out that there was only 1 winner from Quezon City grabbing the million peso jackpot. Whoever he was, he is the luckiest person in the world!

And so, our money was wasted for the lotto and owning my dream house will just be a dream forever. That was not until I found about American Home Shield which really can help me alot that owning a dream home may really come true. With the help of AHS, a homeowner can get a protection against unneccesary damages to their homes because they have a unique expertise on home inspections so we can be sure that the home that we buy is safe to live in. A home should be free of termites and the foundation should be strong. 5years from now, I will be at United States of America and I know who to turn on to when I buy my dream home there.

Living Alone

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Living with my family back in my hometown in Kidapawan was  a taste of luxury coz I don’t have to worry about laundry since we have our maids to do the job, I have my car to get me around the city and most of all I don’t have to worry about my daily meals because its all cooked fresh and hot. As if I am living like a crowned prince in my home but things have turned upside down ever since I moved here in Davao City to find work and destiny.

I lived in a small, basic flat at Buhangin, Davao City just few miles from my place of work, Davao Medical Center. Living alone means that I do my laundry but just recenlty because of stress from work, I send my clothes to the laundry shop. I just felt I don’t have the strenght to wash my clothes since you know as mentioned in my previous post, I felt like going to the gym when I’m at work. Its so toxic and all the running to and fro can really burn alot of calories and drain you at the end of the day. There’s one Laundry shop at Bonifacio Street where I can get a good deal on my laundry, they cost only P13/kilo and you can get your clothes within the next 24 hours.

Another thing that I do now is with regards with my meals. My typical breakfast consist of instant meals or foods that only needs hot water and pooff your on the go. Usually, every morning I start my day with my favorite Quaker Flavor rich oats that comes with different variants such as apple cinnamon, banana honey, strawberry and melon dew. Added to that is my new favorite, Lipton Milk tea vanilla flavor, I’m so addicted to this drink. Moreover, my favorite instant meal is the omega 3 rich Century Tuna Light and 1 cup of rice. I love tuna alot.

But you know, there seems to be an alien invasion inside my flat. I noticed that my door has some damaged part which I suspect are caused by nasty termites and in turn some baby cockroaches are able to peep in inside my room. Ewww. I hate this creepy crawlers and I’m allergic to the noxious fumes of insects sprays. While exploring on the net, I found out that Terminix is the worlds most leading provider of termite control and since not all homes are the same, they offer a specialized free inspection of your home. For more info on their services, visit them now or call their customer care hotline at 1-866-487-1188. See you later guys, I’ll keep my fingers busy now. No termites, rodents, cockoaches are allowed in my room!

Case Study: CVA (Stroke)

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

At Davao Medical Center - Medicine ward, we have the highest mortality rate among all wards at the hospital. Mostly we have terminal cases such as cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or commonly known as stroke and the most fatal of them all is the hemorraghic type or CVA bleed and sad to say that some of them die.

Photobucket

Admitted patients usually have symptoms of paralysis or one sided weakness and sometimes family brought their patients to the hospital with severe symptoms. CVA is usually related to lifestyle behavior. Diets rich in fats, cholesterol, sodium, sugar are one of the factors. Added to that is smoking and lack of exercise. As you can see, this factors bring up hypertension or increased blood pressure.

What happens kasi is that too much fat and cholesterol may pile up in the blood vessels in the brain. Just imagine a water hose in your garden, if you run the faucet and apply pressure to the hose by clamping it. A pressure builds up in the end of the hose and eventually the hose will burst. The same thing that happens to our blood vessels in the brain, a pressure will build up and booomm! Your brain has bleeding. A blocked vessel may cause oxygen depletion in the brain, also known as brain hypoxia. At 5 minutes of oxygen deprivation, the brain cells could die causing a loss of function to the affected part.

Most dangerous vessels is the one that connects to the respiratory center of the brain or the medulla oblongata. If its affected, certainly the patients will develop respiratory distress and we intubate the patient or we place a tube on the patients mouth to assist them in breathing and hook them to continous ambubagging or a mechanical ventilator.

Renal Dialysis Nursing

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Do you want to become a Renal Dialysis nurse?

A dialysis nurse is sometimes referred to as a nephrology nurse, a urology nurse or a renal nurse. Dialysis nurses learn to operate dialysis equipment that filters waste products from a patient’s body when the kidneys can no longer perform this necessary function themselves.

Davao Medical Center boast for having the most number and the most modern renal dialysis facilities in whole Mindanao. This is an interesting in area in Nursing. Perhaps in the future, I would shift my career as a renal nurse. DMC’s Renal Dialysis Unit is so nice, it has TV  in every dialysis seats, the place is fully airconditioned and clean. I like their shifting schedule too because they don’t have night duties and they are off every sundays.

If you are a nurse, you might as well train at Davao Medical Center - Renal Dialysis Unit.

Train at SPMC (Formerly Davao Medical Center)

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Are you a newly registered nurse? Be the best that you can be. Train at Davao Medical Center (DMC).

Honestly, nurses really find it difficult to get a job today because of competition and cost cutting measures so its best option is to undergo a training program. The recent trends now here in Davao is that many hospitals are doing a training program just like DMC and San Pedro as part of their pre-employment qualification and as well to be sure that the hired nurses are competent and can practice safe nursing care.

Actually, I am a product of DMC Training program, I attended it last May 2007 and completed my 4 months Intensive Ward Training around September 2007 and officially hired last January 2008. There are many areas to choose from aside from Ward, they have Critical Care, Psychiatry, Renal Dialysis Unit, Emergency, Ambulatory, Opthalmology Operating Room, Delivery and the only Burn Unit in Mindanao ranging from 4 months - 6 months depending on your chosen field.

I really learned alot during my training, it improved my skills because at DMC we can do hands-on experience and rhe cases are diverse. Moreover, at DMC, they have regular seminars that you can attend to update yourself in the field of nursing. At the end of my training, I felt confident to face different patients from all walks of life.

Here are the requirements for the DMC Nursing Program:

Bad Hair Day

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

If there’s any part of my body I would like to be fixed, its my hair. Most of the time, I pity myself because I have bad hair days most of the time. I noticed that my hair is thinner compared to other people which means its more difficult to style. I envy those men on tv commercials with really great, voluminous and bouncy hair. However, on my arms and feet, I have thicker hairs just like a warewolf. I also have noticeable frontal canine teeth too. Can anybody can help me about this hair-raising dilemma?
