Dirty Job

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

During my first week of work at the hospital, I had a very really yucky experience that I felt I’m gonna resign my work. Could you just imagine that I suctioned secretions on the endotracheal tube without a gloves? This is so eewww! The patient was positive for pneumonia and who knows he might just had tuberculosis or even pseudomonas infection.

Now, why didn’t I put on any gloves? Its because we don’t have gloves available in the ward in other words its out of stock. What I did was to use a cellphane instead of the gloves which creates so much mess. Nursing practice is a dangerous job. Noted incidents are transmission of a diseases through a needle prick and some nosocomial or hospital acquired infections. The best way to prevent this is through handwashing and use of protective barriers

that’s why plenty of nurses left this country. the government is not spending much for healthcare.
