The People I envy aLot

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I made an informal survey through SMS about the people they most envy about. Most respond that they envy big time celebrities they saw on TV. However, mine is really different. I don't care about the TV personalities or whatever. What I'm talking about is those people who offer service to  people thats the real celebrity for me, they are the people who can work under pressure, work on  graveyard shifts, serves with love and even adapts to different timezones. You might be thinking these are nurses but no, Im talking about Flight attendants. Its my dream job to fly and serve people of all races up in the sky, its the coolest job in the world. You get to serve and travel to different airports and see more airlines. Thats what I wanted to be.

Looking through some advertisements on broadsheets about hiring flight attendants, it made me a little depressed and almost into tears because I think that I don't qualify based on their criteria. One, its weight is proportionate to the height.  I guess I'm a bit off the weighing scale. Hahah. Just kidding, I'm 5"10 and weigh about 84 kg. So, its just a little step from the normal range. In turn, I want to enroll again in the fitness gym coz this time I'm not that busy with my work. Second, clear complexion. I worried about this sometimes because I have some small pimple marks on  my face since flight attendants need to be drop dead gorgeous, hahaha. I never saw a flight attendant who had some freckles or pimples on their face but no biggie nowadays coz Vicky Belo is here. Third, able to swim. I really don't know how to swim. The minimum requirement is at least 50m unaided. I don't know if I'll learn to swim at this age. Hahah.

Everytime I'm at the airport and all these  Flight attendants pass by towards their aircraft,  my jaw would almost feel out of admiration. They are the biggest celebrity for me that are more closer to the stars, clouds and the atmosphere. Beat that! However, going back to reality, all remains are wishful thinking that someday I would be a flight attendant for Philippine Airlines.

The “Drop Dead Gorgeous” requirement only applies to countries that still practice DISCRIMAMINATION like the Philippines. Superficial employers and superficial citizens (not all) in a supposedly “one of the freest countries in Asia.
