Hahah, ano ba ginawa ko this past few weeks at di ako nakapag update ng blog ko. Well, the most interesting happened to me last week is I have attended the seminar conducted by the Red Cross Davao Chapter which is the Basic Life Support and First Aid plus Water safety. I had so much fun in the seminar, it was an experience worth remembering. Through that seminar, I learned alot of skills that will help me enhance my nursing skills and be useful to the community.
During the seminar, we had a lecture regarding Basic Life Support, we were taught the process of responding to emergencies. Sometimes we are overwhelmed in helping people as if we are superheroes during emergencies however little do we know that we could produce more harm to the victims if we employ wrong techniques especially when the patient had Spinal cord injury, it could create a permanent disability.
The following day we were taught how to do bandaging, it was an arduous task for me although I managed to pull it through at the end of the day. The most difficult task would be creating a square knot on the bandage. After I got home, I used my chair to act as a patient to practice my new acquired skills.
After a days of lecture and demonstration, we had a practical tests on CPR. I thought I couldn't pass the test because of my poor skills but surprisingly, I passed all the test without nosebleeding. Our instructors were really supportive to us despite some of our misbehavior, haha.
The most challenging was during Saturday when we had Sit-Al or Situational Analysis. It is a test of all the concepts we have learned on how we put it on the actual scenario. We were given a situation which is a vehicular accident. The scene happened infront of the City Triangle where 3 of our friends acted as victims and the rest of the group were acting as First Aider.
The signal went on and we rushed to the scene of the "accident". We performed CPR, splinting and Bandaging to the victims. It was such an exciting experience, there was this fake blood that oozes to our victim. My clothes were bloody, good thing I brought a disposable ones. After transporting the victims to the safe place, another volunteer from Red Cross made his remark. We really mess it up. We have failed our mission because we forgot to follow the steps in the emergency action plan. However, we learned alot from our mistakes and it would not happen again.
Sa wakas, Finally we have reached the final task on our seminar which is Water Safety. We held our water safety course at Forest Hills here in Davao City. I was very elated for the event because I love to make splash on the pool however the real purpose is to learn some basic water safety. One time my attention was focused on the water than on the lecture, haha. However, our instructor was very accomodating and very patient to us.
Wow! Im so glad I joined the training seminar, it was really worth spending P800. Not only I had fun but I also learned which is very important for a lifetime. You too can have this experience, contact Red Cross Davao at 222-6650.
